The Impatient Sawyer - Ripping Wood By Hand

Updated: May 31

There are times when 10 minutes feels like an eternity to me. Ripping wood by hand is one of those times.

Especially when the stock is hard maple…

…and I'm out of practice...

…and my saw is dull.

I change my position. I move the work.

”Maybe this way will be faster. No. Maybe this way?”

The fastest way is, of course, to simply put your head down and get it done.

That and sharpen the saw.

This week's 3-1/2 minute video is the first in a series I'm calling "The Hand Tool Practice"

Most of my students tell me the biggest barrier to more woodworking is time.

This series will show you just how much you can get done with the little time you have.

All you need to do is build a practice of spending small chunks of time around woodworking.
